Historic Rap Throwdown
Reflections of the project
What was your initial reaction when the project was introduced during team time?
My initial reaction was very surprised because I did not expect us to actually incorporate Epic Rap Battles of History to our education. When I first saw it I thought it would be really fun to do but started having second thoughts on it being a 4 person group project because I really do not like big group projects as well as the thought of me having to rap would be just terrible. As for when my teachers fully explained what we would be doing I felt both bothered and excited in a way. In all that was probably my initial reaction and I think that lasted throughout most of the project.
How did this project support your understanding of History or a specific historical figure? What historical tidbit will you always remember because of this project?
This project really helped me get into the mindset of Freud since I had to be him. It was kind of fun too because I learned lots of fun facts about Freud along with who he is since I didn't even know who he was. My understanding of Freud really changed how I felt about psychology since he was a huge influence on the whole ideas of psychology and the mind. But since this song will be forever stuck in my head, one line will always remind me of how I learned about Freud's idea of the Oedipus Complex which is when the son wants to kill his father because he "wants" his mother.
Without naming any names, how were the dynamics of your group? Were you a positive or negative (or a little bit of both) on your group dynamics?
I think I was mostly a good influence on the dynamics of my groups besides the fact I got frustrated with some of the work ethics of people in my group. I constantly worked in my group, whether it be editing, acting, recording my voice, and try and keep my group focused on their work. I did, however, feel as though my group did take advantage of me because I'm kind of a push-over when it comes to working and will hog all the work instead of letting people in my group do some work. Although I felt really frustrated that no one wanted to put input or help into the video sometimes. Especially one of my group members when I would ask for input and they would respond with "I don't really care. Do whatever." and go back to doing absolutely nothing.
How did this project support your understanding of Multimedia or the production process? What was the most useful thing that you learned from this project?
During this project I did learn (or at least re-learn) Garageband and Final Cut Pro. I did a lot of editing and had to learn to deal with the green screen, shadows, clip editing, transitions, cutting, timing, audio, etc. It really helped me out since I know that I'm probably going to be doing more projects with video and these skills in Final Cut Pro will help out a lot. I also am glad I got to re-learn Garageband as well since it is a really fun program where I get to make music, and sync things together, and even incorporate my own voice/instruments in the future.
After completing the project how do you feel about your final Youtube video and the project as a whole?
After finishing this project, I am so glad we were done with it because it took a long time to actually finish it but in all it was really fun. I made new friends in my group with people I never thought I would become friends with and it was very fun to make this video since I learned a bunch of new things as well as just doing something other than some boring tutorial on how to make a website or shoot pictures. As for our Youtube video, I'm not very sure how to feel about it. There is a mix of embarrassment since I am a bearded psychologist, as well as proud accomplishment for actually putting together a Youtube video that's really entertaining. Overall I give this project at least 4/5 (things could be changed up for the better) since I had so much fun plus the fact I learned a lot.
